Yoga for Flexibility Progression with Tara : 23 Minutes : November 2017
This Strala for Flexibility Progression class is led by founder Tara Stiles, combining the movement of a class with the more detailed instruction of a workshop. You'll focus on three key areas for optimal flexibility:
1) Release not stretch. This might come as a science surprise: Lasting flexibility in an adult body doesn't come from stretching. Potential here originates in a chemical signal from your brain, that tells your muscles it's safe to lengthen. You'll practice this process here, by releasing excess tension and stress, while moving easily all around tight areas.
2) Breath. You'll learn to use every breath for locating and releasing excess tension and stress, that gets in the way of easy mobility.
3) Whole body. Your body works as a whole, not a collection of isolated parts. So rather than separating out muscle groups as flexibility targets, you'll learn to move more holistically, on your way to creating easy mobility.
Get ready let go of stress, release excess tension, and balance your body optimally between strength and flexibility, stability and mobility!
Just download to your computer, keep it there or move to any of your other devices, and carry your Strala with you wherever you go!
Strala combines the movement and healing wisdom of tai chi with the rich form vocabulary of yoga.
Get ready to drop the stress and tension in your body and mind, that keeps you working much harder than you need, to achieve much less than you can.
You'll learn to move powerfully through your life and handle challenge with ease.
Strala was created by Tara Stiles, drawing on her background in classical ballet and choreography, as well as her long-time personal practice in yoga. Tara trained with Paul Taylor Dance Company choreographer and dancer Eileen Cropley, and began her yoga study in the 1990s with her ballet teacher, Rory Foster of American Ballet Theater.
The science and movement of Strala is also guided by Strala co-founder Mike Taylor. Mike studied mind-body medicine at Harvard, and complementary medicine at Oxford. He has practiced Eastern movement and healing, including tai chi and qi gong, for 30 years.
Our Strala School uses yoga, tai chi, and traditional Chinese and Japanese medicine, to help people release stress, heal themselves, and move powerfully through their lives. Our program is backed by mind-body medicine pioneer Dr. Deepak Chopra, and Harvard neurology professor and Director of the Genetics and Aging Research Unit at Massachusetts General Hospital, Dr. Rudolph Tanzi.
